Jung said healing occurs when we bring the subconscious to the conscious, AA believes a spiritual awakening is needed for recovery, neuroscience can prove psychedelics healing trauma. My draw to scared plant medicine was not on my agenda. I was sober for life. That was my plan.
In 2019 I journeyed with ayahuasca and broke years of sobriety to do so. It felt like an enormous risk yet the benefits were life changing. When I came back into AA I was othered from commenting about my experience. I started a community called DEEP, as a way to bring together friends who were no longer sober during the pandemic to practice safe use and non shaming. Statistically people recover when they take the shame out of addiction and practice safe use.
I decided to go back to school and get my bachelors in psychology in 2023 at age 35, and will be applying to master programs in 2027 to hopefully get my MFT. I want to be an activator of change in modern western medicine and try to bridge the gaps. And the recovery space isn’t the only space I want to bridge a gap. I also want to bridge the gap in our collective understanding as coming together in the Jewish and Islamic community as my family is blended. Decolonizing Diaries is my current project of storytelling my POV of encouraging everyone to reach for the medicine of togetherness and accountability from a multi perspective approach.
I’m also an artist and work with many mediums, and have seen throughout my life I attract other artists looking for and enlightenment and transcendence from patterns.
